Dear  Richard :

Thank
you for expressing your opposition to legislation that would place  cannabinoid and  mephedrone products
in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act (Public Law 91-513).  I appreciate knowing your views
and welcome the opportunity to share my perspective on this matter.

Across
the country, poison control centers are receiving more and more reports of abuse of synthetic drugs.
The American Association of Poison Control Centers has noted that centers nationally received 2,882 calls
about synthetic marijuana in 2010, up from a reported 14 calls in 2009; and while there were 301 calls
about bath salts in all of 2010, there were 1,381 such calls between January 1 and March 30, 2011.  Disturbingly,
the primary users of these dangerous synthetic substances are youth who were purchasing them online or
in gas stations, convenience stores, and smoke shops.  This is why I believe that Congress should act
to curb the use of  cannabinoid and  mephedrone products.

To
stay ahead of producers of these dangerous drugs, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) and I introduced the
"Dangerous Synthetic Drug Control Act of 2011" (S. 605).  As you know, this legislation would ban chemicals
commonly found in synthetic drugs and provide the Drug Enforcement Administration greater flexibility
in emergency scheduling.  In addition, I am an original cosponsor of the  "Combating
Dangerous Synthetic Stimulants Act of 2011" (S. 409), which Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) introduced
on February 17, 2011.  This legislation would add bath salts to a list of federally controlled substances,
and therefore prohibit possession of the drug.  Ultimately, these bills aim to remove dangerous synthetic
drugs from the market.

I
have served in public office long enough to realize that these synthetic drugs will not be the last substances
that drug traffickers make available to our young people.  This is why I believe that it is important
for Congress to counteract the growing threat of these dangerous designer drugs.

Although
we must agree to disagree, please know that I greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts on this issue.
Knowing your views is very helpful, and I hope that you continue inform me on matters that are important
to you.  If you have any additional comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact my Washington,
D.C. office at (202) 224-3841.

Sincerely yours,

  Dianne Feinstein
         United States Senator

Hey,

I know you support medical marijuana so I had to tell you about this...

Just the other day, several dispensaries were raided by federal agents
in California. These blatant, aggressive raids are extreme acts of
federal interference. Even though we voted to legalize medical
marijuana more than fifteen years ago, federal agencies are using our
tax dollars to attack patients' and states' rights -- and the will of
the public.

I am outraged so I urged U.S. Attorney Haag to stop these ruthless
raids and hope you'll join me. It would mean so much to me if you'd
contact Haag today. It only takes a minute but it could make all the
difference.

Click here to help stop the medical marijuana raids.
