To the Editor of The Grass Valley Union:

I'm writing about Joanne Crouch's not-so-thoughtful letter:
"Marijuana not a harmless herb" (12-10-11). If Crouch is opposed
to marijuana use, medical or otherwise, I have some simple advice:
don't buy it, don't grow it and don't use it. Period.

What somebody does to themselves in the privacy of their own home
should be their business. Not their neighbors.

It seems to me that the right to self-medicate should be a fundamental
right granted to all adult citizens or legal residents.

US FL: Novelty Drugs Maintain Their Grip

The report inferred that synthetic marijuana and bath salts caused "...
a mother to seriously injure her 2-year-old son and leave him on an
interstate because she thought he was possessed by demons", and others
"who ....have fired weapons at places where they think they see monsters"

America is waging a war on marijuana that began 75 years ago and has
cost billions and ruined millions of lives. Now we are learning that the
'Reefer Madness' scare of 1937 was based on lies. Let's not do it for
synthetic marijuana and bath salts. Hyping the danger of a substance
adds to its glitz and excitement, to attract people who would otherwise
pay no attention.

Subj: 003 LTE: 'Invitation to a Dialogue: Medical Marijuana'
From: John Chase <>

Editors, New York Times -

Re: "Invitation to a Dialogue: Medical Marijuana", 14 Dec

David Evans objects to medical marijuana because it does not "...meet
the rigorous criteria of the Food and Drug Administration approval
process." Surely, he is aware of DEA's systematic hindrance of
scientific research over the last several decades, even for FDA-approved
protocols. This obstruction is documented in the painful, almost
laughable, detail of the Amicus Curiae brief filed in the 9th Circuit in
2005 by Rick Doblin, PhD, in the case of Angel Raich, and in the 2007
"Opinion and Recommended Ruling" by Mary Ellen Bittner, DEA
Administrative Law Judge in the matter of Lyle E. Craker, PhD.

Yes, I agree that we should "...rely on science and not political
agendas to decide what is good medicine." If only politics would allow it.

To the Editor of The Hutchinson News:

So Bret Snyder is against marijuana. I have some simple advice for him.
Don't buy it. Don't grow it. And don't use it. Period.

Since Snyder is a self-appointed expert on marijuana, I have a question
for him. Where do you find marijuana that is ten times stronger than
marijuana of the 1970's? If it were legal and sold in licensed and
regulated
businesses, you could read it on the packaging.

To the Editor of The LA Times:

Re: "More teens say no to tobacco, yes to pot" (12-15-11).

Since marijuana is a substitute for both alcohol and tobacco that
contains nicotine,
increased pot use by teens is actually a good thing. Alcohol and
tobacco are
potentially lethal. Pot is not.

To the Editor of The Prescott Daily Courier:

Thanks for publishing Alan Dean Forster's thoughtful letter:
"Medical marijuana can be a lifesaver--literally" (12-15-11).
I'd like to add that I know from personal experience that marijuana is a
substitute for both dangerous
painkillers like Vicodin and alcohol.

The pharmaceutical industry knows this and so does the alcohol
industry. And this is probably why marijuana remains a criminalized
substance.
