NO PROFIT IN LEGALIZING IT

RE: BILL Kaufmann's column, Aug 21. Cannabis has no lethal dose and hasn't 
caused a death in 5,000 years. The driving force against medical (or 
unrestricted adult) legalization of cannabis is that it can't be patented. 
That makes it commercially unattractive, pharmaceutically speaking. If it 
can't be profitable, the government won't legalize it even for the sick and 
dying.
