UNJUST JUSTICE?

I just finished reading the chilling and scary account of a Tulia man who
sold less than a fifth of an ounce of cocaine to an undercover officer and
received a 60-year prison sentence (Sept. 8 Daily News Area Final story,
"Tulia man gets 60 years in drug trial").

This is yet another example that we are living in a police state where
authorities have license to literally destroy lives - all under the ruse of
a so-called drug war.

One has to wonder whether the undercover agent, the district attorney and
the judge harbor any misgivings after putting this man in prison for the
rest of his life. More daunting, however, is the realization that they
probably believe what they did was just.
