COMPASSIONATE USE OF CANNABIS

Thank you to Bill Kaufmann for the Sept. 21 column "High crime's a
sham." From the perspective of a parent who had a son who died of
leukemia, I would like to convey the compassionate use of cannabis.

With chemotherapy, there is severe nauseating and retching that occurs
that can in some instances break a person's rib. At that point the
patient can be receiving intravenous feedings and cannot hold anything
down. When marijuana is smoked by some patients it has the miraculous
effect of eliminating much of that nausea and enables patients to eat.
