JUSTICE IS BLIND

Awhile back, I became so irate with the Globe-News, I canceled my subscription. Going cold turkey for weeks, I professed to myself and others that this paper would never darken my doorstep again.

It was not my final answer, to borrow today's cliche. Here I am, a subscriber again. No matter how much some of the items bother me, the Globe-News is without a doubt an interesting, though at times exasperating, daily journey that I highly recommend.

On Sept. 18, I read two letters, one from Mitch Hodge and one from Charles Hurlocker Jr. I totally agreed with their opinions and assessment of our judicial system, which favors murderers over drug offenders. Murderers are getting a slap on the wrist while a person caught with drugs, like the man in Tulia, loses his entire life for a nonviolent offense.

The right thing to do would be to get drug offenders who are caught with a small amount of drugs into rehabilitation.

Let's look at the picture here. President Clinton smoked pot, lied under oath and made himself, and us, the laughingstock of the world, hurting America's image irreparably. Has he paid the price for his mistakes? No! He will be collecting a fat pension after he leaves the White House.

Clinton will go down in history as the president who defiled the Oval Office and hurt his party and the entire country. A great example for our young people!

Hypocrisy is in full bloom among law enforcement officials, policy-makers and judges. The famous Boys' Club prevails again by issuing a "get out of jail free" card to murderers and throwing the book at a person who could be rehabilitated. Ethics, please!
