TARC STUDENTS HELP SPREAD ANTI-ECSTASY MESSAGE

IPOH: Besides creating an awareness on the importance of education to rural
folk under the MCA Langkawi Project, 40 students from TAR College (TARC)
also took the opportunity to spread the "Say No To Ecstasy" message in
their seven-day stay in Kampung Tawas here.

Rain or shine, they were seen cycling house-to-house to pass on the message
and persuade villagers to attend a talk and exhibition on the anti-Ecstasy
campaign yesterday.

The students also delivered pamphlets on the campaign to customers at
coffee-shops and grocery shops and put up anti-Ecstasy posters.

"We organised the exhibition ourselves and have invited a doctor as a speaker."

"The support from the residents was very encouraging," said Leong Kwai
Sang, a 21-year-old diploma student in building.

"We are very happy to have an opportunity to serve the community besides
experiencing a different living environment here," said Foo Li Ling, 20, a
diploma student in accounting.

The students were among 1,606 TARC students who stayed with foster parents
in 37 new villages nationwide from Sept 26 to Oct 2 during their semester
break.

Foo Tat Fong, 44, a construction worker, who had taken in two students,
said his family were very happy whenever the TARC students came to organise
activities in their village.
