It noted Anderson was the latest city leader to halt the federally subsidized program in which police officers go into schools with an anti-drug message. Cities that scrapped DARE on the grounds it doesn't work include Minneapolis, Austin, Seattle and Omaha, some of which are run by conservative, Republican mayors. DARE could become a hot issue in Utah in the next few years since Salt Lake County Mayor-elect Nancy Workman made her support of DARE and her disagreement with Anderson a major campaign issue. - --- MAP posted-by: Larry Stevens
