The Times Record News suggests that there is a "mandate" for strict enforcement of drug laws, but this does not reflect the opinions of voters in 11 states who have legalized medical marijuana and/or eliminated or reduced prison time for drug users. Proposition 200 in Arizona and Proposition 36 in California that eliminate prison time for drug users passed with landslide majorities of over 60 percent and there is little doubt that voters in other states will follow their lead if they have the opportunity. So where's this mythical "mandate" for police to trespass into any area no matter how much it violates a citizen's privacy? Redford Givens, San Francisco, via e-mail - --- MAP posted-by: Doc-Hawk
