JUST FOLLOWING THE RULES?

The stone-walling is starting by the staff of Taycheedah. The staff
"followed established procedure," or so claim the people involved
("Asthmatic prisoner dies after pleading for help," Feb. 15).

How long will we accept the excuses of people who hide behind the letter of
the law and ignore human decency in the process? To render medical treatment
to a person in distress is fundamental, no matter what the situation. Those
who denied Michelle Greer that right took her life.

What kind of people can make such a poor decision and then attempt to escape
responsibility by hiding behind a rule book? Laws and rules are meant to
serve the people, not the other way around!
