DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO

Re: Vietnamese Court Portrays Executed Canadian as Liar, May 1.

It was quite amusing the government of Canada, through the foreign affairs
office, criticized the government of Vietnam for executing a heroin
smuggler. Amusing in that this government, as well as other Western
governments, asks the governments of drug-producing countries to crack down
on illicit drugs. Then when they do, our representatives complain. So here
is a woman caught with heroin. She is convicted and executed. If you want to
play the smuggling game, expect the consequences. This stuff kills. It kills
adults and children, destroys marriages and jobs and costs millions in law
enforcement. I say the Vietnamese government has a better understanding of
deterrent than our very own foreign affairs office.
