GORE: MEDICAL POT NOT THE BEST ANSWER

Al Gore said Thursday that there are better alternatives to the
medical use of marijuana because "the science does not show ... that
it is the proper medication for pain."

The Democratic candidate, on a visit to a Cudahy high school, was
asked by a student for his position on whether doctors should be
allowed to prescribe marijuana to treat pain. Gore said that should be
decided "strictly on the science."

"Right now, the science does not show me or the experts whose
judgment I trust that it is the proper medication for pain and that
there are not better alternatives available in every situation," he
responded.
