In the two-hour raid which began at 2.24am, a total of 379 patrons were taken to the police station here for screening. Of the 50, two girls and a boy were discharged. They were aged between 14 and 17. Five of the patrons had earlier tried to escape by jumping out of a window at the back of the outlet located on the second floor of a building but police caught them later. Perak CID chief Asst Comm Abu Bakar Mustaffa said the outlet was operating without a licence since May last year. He said police found 19 sticks of cigarettes believed to be stuffed with cannabis, four Ecstacy pills and a modified plastic bottle suspected to have been used for sniffing drugs. Three rattan sticks and two iron pipes which could be used as weapons were also recovered. When contacted by police, parents of several of the underaged girls expressed shock that their daughters were at the outlet, ACP Abu Bakar said. He said the owner of the outlet would be charged for operating without a licence. In Penang, police rounded up 138 people on suspicion of consuming amphetamine-type stimulants at two entertainment outlets. Forty-eight of them tested positive, police said. - --- MAP posted-by: Doc-Hawk
