The summit plans to bring together individuals and groups committed to harm prevention for drug reform to comment on how prevention can be better managed. Member for Monaro Peter Webb, who is involved in promoting the summit, said it would highlight preventative policies which were not covered at last year 's drug summit. "The summit will recognise the need to prevent harm to the children, families and communities who suffer the effects of other people's drug abuse," he said. Mr Webb said the objectives of the summit included the promotion of immediate strategies for true drug law reform, treatment, rehabilitation and education. "Special emphasis will be given to research-based evidence on present drug policies and their effectiveness. There will also be a discussion on the ways by which media, commwdty groups, institutions and individuals can be better informed and educated," he said. The summit will be invitation only, but individuals and community groups interested in it can phone Jill Pearman on 9560 3899 or 0413 112 679 for further information. - --- MAP posted-by: Keith Brilhart
