FREEDOMS TAKE PRIORITY

Regarding your editorial ("Basic freedoms: The next victim in the war on
drugs," May 31, page 6B):

While I will admit that the use of drugs must be curtailed in this country,
that does not give any legislature - state or federal - the right to
infringe upon the basic freedoms guaranteed us in the Constitution.

To paraphrase Mr. Jefferson: To infringe upon the freedoms of one is to
imperil the freedoms of many. As good citizens, it is our duty to tell our
representatives what we think and feel and believe. Else, why defend our
dear republic?
