DRUG TESTING MAKES SENSE

The Buhl School District is wise to accommodate random drug testing on
students whose parents approve. The program is voluntary, so parents who
don't want their children tested are free to decline.

All across America, people are taking substantive steps toward stamping out
illegal drug use. What's happening in Buhl is another good step.

But it begs an important question: Why aren't teachers subject to random
drug tests? Many workers in the private sector must submit to random drug
tests, as do many public employees. Public school teachers, who are powerful
role models for our children, shouldn't be exempt.
