ROCHESTER OFFICER KILLS MAN DURING RAID

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A 21-year-old man was killed when a city police
officer's shotgun went off during a drug raid.

Police Chief Robert Duffy said no weapons were found in the house
after the raid Thursday night. He did not say if any drugs were recovered.

Duffy would not identify the man who was shot in the chest. He died an
hour after the shooting. Duffy also would not identify the officer who
was taken to a local hospital after complaining of chest pains.

Shortly after 9 p.m., an undercover officer bought cocaine from the
house. Police obtained a warrant and seven or eight officers returned
at 9:40 p.m. They forcibly entered the apartment and found three people.

They had one person in custody and were trying to apprehend the other
two when the officers shotgun discharged. Police administered
cardiopulmonary resuscitation while waiting for an ambulance.
