Author: John Fritze POLICE RAID LATE-NIGHT RAVE PARTY 5 Arrested Police shut down an illegal rave on the Northwestside Sunday because party promoters failed to file a "dance hall permit" with city hall. Police raided the party, in the 6600 block of Coffman Road, shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday and arrested five people, including two minors, on drug-related charges. Joseph Jordan, 18, and Jeremiah Baughman, 24, were in custody Monday. A third adult, Chris Chavira, 22, was released on $5,000 bond. The move was part of continuing efforts on behalf of Mayor Bart Peterson to improve neighborhoods by cutting down on health and safety code violations. Scarab Productions, which organized the event, failed to file a dance hall permit that would have allowed officials to inspect the building where the party took place. On Monday, the city filed paperwork that could permanently stop the parties from taking place without such a permit, according to city attorney Scott Chinn. Raves, all-night dance parties, can sometimes be places where drugs are sold and used. Officials for Scarab Productions could not be reached for comment. "Raves are accidents waiting to happen, and we will work hard to make sure they don't take root in Indianapolis," IPD Chief Jerry Barker said. "These are not innocent parties, but instead serious public safety issues." - --- MAP posted-by: Beth
