EMPHASIS ON 'PROGRESSIVE'

Paul Sullivan (column -- June 12) suggests that the leader of the
Conservative Party, Joe Clark, should not be the marshal at a Gay Pride
parade or endorse the decriminalization of marijuana. Mr. Sullivan seems to
have forgotten the name of Mr. Clark's party: "Progressive" Conservative.

PCs may be fiscally conservative but they're not socially conservative. Mr.
Sullivan suggests that Mr. Clark's actions will end his "political
resurrection." But surely Mr. Clark is not trying to attract those 9 per
cent of the voters who still support the Alliance. Instead, he is after
some of those 55 per cent who support the Liberals.
