Prohibition Will Fail, As It Always Has

A recent letter writer writes ("Demand for illegal drugs fueling
terrorists," AC-T, Oct. 12) that he'd like for "...patriotic 'recreational'
drug users (who) purchase, then puff, snort, or inject an illegal
substance, (to) think about the fact that you may be buying the bullet that
kills an American serviceman." Perhaps the author should have considered
the consequences of prohibition before he supported a policy that turned
weeds and flowers into gold. Before they were outlawed, those substances
were worth about as much as lawn clippings. Now, because of drug
prohibition, not only can the terrorists buy the bullets, but also the
weapons to fire them. I'd like to know, do the (prohibitionists) of the
world support drug prohibition because it finances terrorists abroad, or
because it finances criminal empires on our own soil?

Prohibition didn't work for alcohol, it won't work for drugs, and all the
patriotic flag waving in the world won't change that fact.
