PROGRAM TELLS TRUTH ABOUT DRUG USE

To the editor:

DanceSafe, like other harm reduction groups, is the first anti-drug
education that really works. ("Councillor wants drug testing allowed at
raves," Nov. 4). Why? Because they tell people the truth about drugs. They
give real-world, impartial information about the effects of drugs, and the
and dangers of abuse.

Anti-drug propaganda is rife with untruths. When teenagers see that they
are being fed false information (such as "smoking marijuana will kill you"
or "drug dealers are just in it for the money"), they disbelieve everything
they are taught. DanceSafe gives information that helps people think for
themselves and make the right decision about drugs. Unlike programs like
DARE, DanceSafe's education keeping teenagers from abusing drugs and saving
lives.
