FREEDOM NOT NONSENSE

Concerning the comment "Nonsense," which followed my April 12 letter
Legalize Drugs: The following quotation is from Human Action, by
Nobel prize winner Ludwig von Mises, the 20th century's greatest
defender of freedom.

"The mischief done by bad ideologies, surely, is much more
pernicious, both for the individual and for the whole society, than
that done by narcotic drugs. If one abolishes man's freedom to
determine his own consumption, one takes all freedoms away. The naive
advocates of government interference with consumption ... unwittingly
support the case of censorship, inquisition, religious intolerance
and the persecution of dissenters."

If The Sun's editors consider this nonsense, I am overjoyed to be the
stupidest person ever to have had a letter published in your paper.

Chris Buors

(Freedom and liberty are not nonsense, but the idea that simple
legalization can solve all drug problems is.)
