WORK WITH SAMM

EDITOR: Regarding the Press Democrat story on April 20, "DA to seek
medical pot rules," District Attorney Mike Mullins wants to spell out
how much cannabis medical users can have following the acquittal of Ken
Hayes and Mike Foley.

Mullins said he wants to work out guidelines with local police chiefs
and the sheriff.

I feel Mullins means well. However, in order to fairly decide the number
of plants or amount of marijuana patients are allowed, it's imperative
that our DA work with the Sonoma Alliance for Medical Marijuana (SAMM).

This is not an issue for the DA or police to decide how much medicine a
person requires. SAMM is a non-profit organization that offers
outstanding integrity and patient insight.

Ernest "Doc" Knapp and the SAMM group constantly work with sick and
dying patients. They know the various amounts of medicine needed. Many
doctors prescriptions read, "Take as needed." Each patient is different.
There is not one size fits all.

We cannot wait for the Legislature to make a decision. We need guidance
for police officers and patients now. Please work with SAMM.
