ACTOR WOODY HARRELSON LEADS THE MOTHERSHIP ON ORGANIC LIVING TREK

Actor Woody Harrelson came back to San Francisco yesterday -- barefoot and
promoting his eco-activism agenda.

But instead of being fined for scaling the Golden Gate Bridge, this time he
was stopped by police for running a stop sign on his bicycle.

He said the citation was silly.

Harrelson and some friends are riding their bikes from Seattle to Santa
Barbara -- spreading the message of Simple Organic Living. The
15-hundred-mile S-O-L tour began April 12th and is expected to end May 18th.

The travelers are backed by The Mothership, a hemp-and-vegetable-oil
powered former Chicago transit bus. It's painted with mermaids, rainbows,
eagles, oceans and mountains and has cork floors, a hemp fabric roof and a
solar-powered kitchen.

During a speech, Harrelson denounced the government for depleting oil
reserves, using pesticides and backing destruction of natural resources --
while fighting farmers who want to grow hemp.

In 1996, Harrelson took his message to another level by climbing the Golden
Gate Bridge's north tower. The logging protest caused a five-hour traffic
jam. Harrelson was eventually fined one thousand dollars and ordered to
perform 25 hours of community service.
