LITTLE SUPPORT FOR DRUG WAR

To the editor:

In describing why America shouldn't intertwine the war on terrorism with
the nation's failed war on drugs, (Editorial: "Bad Combination," Jan. 2)
let's make a crucial note.

It isn't just that the war on drugs is a complete failure, but why it is a
failure is also pertinent. As long as the war on drugs includes cannabis,
there will never be enough support to insure enough assets to fight any
drug war. Too many citizens have contempt for the war on drugs in part
because it includes cannabis, which is a benign substance, according to our
own government.

Too many citizens use cannabis responsibly and are tired of the various
forms of government deceit directed toward them.

The war on some plants and drugs is more like a freak show; the major
accomplishment is a bigger Al Capone known as Osama bin Laden, financed by
our own ignorance.

It defies integrity and rationality to cage humans for using cannabis. And
to cage sick citizens using cannabis for relief of pain is vile, morbid and
spiteful for a civilization in the year 2001.

Further, as a Christian, it is a sin to cage your brother or neighbor for
using cannabis. Thank God for cannabis.
Accept cannabis (also known as kaneh bosm, before the King James Version),
for what it is as described on the very first page of the Bible (Gen.
1:11-12 and 29-30).
