In response to your Editorial "Phony Drugs". The last line shows the
authors lack of understanding on this issue. The war on drugs has been
raging for nearly 70 years, and there's no end in sight. Why is that?
An intelligent and informed person might say it's because the war
can't be won, or that we're fighting the war on the wrong front. A
well informed person might suggest a new type of war, based on fact
based education, treatment on demand, and an end to costly prohibition
for responsible drug use, much like alcohol. An uninformed person
might suggest more cops, more payoffs to snitches, more military
intervention, and hundreds of billions more dollars. All tactics that
have failed for nearly seventy years. The current drug war doesn't
help anyone but companies that build prisons, attack helicopters, and
murderous thugs.
