N.C. INTRODUCES BILL TO FIGHT URINE SALES

Democrats and Republicans in North Carolina are teaming up in an effort to 
try to shut down businesses that sell urine to beat drug tests.

Attorney General Roy Cooper, Sen. Scott Thomas, D-Craven, and Rep. Trudi 
Walend, R-Transylvania, announced legislation Tuesday that would 
criminalize distribution of urine for the purposes of altering drug test 
results.

Cooper and the lawmakers said much of the impetus for the legislation comes 
from the S.C. conviction of a Hendersonville man for selling urine to beat 
a drug test.

North Carolina's proposal would make illegal the selling of additives that 
could be used to spike urine, as well as using urine or additives to try to 
alter drug test results.

Kenneth Curtis was the first person to be convicted under the 1999 S.C. 
law. He used to operate out of Greenville, S.C., but moved to Hendersonville.
