It is a great public service to raise awareness of the prevalence of this problem, as well as to shed light on the warning signals, changes in sentencing of the accused, and now the debate on public disclosure of these buildings. One day last December, my view of my neighbourhood changed when a house, a few doors down the street from me, was gutted by a fire due to an illegal hydro bypass in a pot grow operation. I had always noticed what I thought to be a strange dark coating on the front window of this house. Over the past six months, I have been able to breathe the smell of scorched house, then view dumpsters of various sizes and colours positioned on the driveway, and now witness that this house has been listed on the MLS market at a premium price with the sale claim of "better than new." I would never knowingly buy a former pot grow house. Full disclosure of a house's history should be mandatory and not left to the principle of "Caveat Emptor."
