RIGHT STEP ON DRUG LAWS

Although I may agree that Gov. George Pataki's drug law reform proposal 
doesn't go far enough, at least it is a step in the right direction ["Gov 
Releases Plan to Change Rockefeller Drug Laws," News, June 8]. New York's 
harsh drug laws have been responsible for oppression of the lower classes 
and minority races for 30 years. I support Pataki in this move to try to 
reduce the laws' oppressive force. With any luck, this is only the 
beginning of a more enlightened era.
