WAR ON DRUGS

Criticism Overdue And On Target

I am writing to praise Cynthia Tucker's recent column on the War on Drugs
("Drug war's end could provide anti-terror ammo," June 23). Tucker
hit the nail on the head when she said that the "War on drug users . . .
has long been a form of official terrorism."

It certainly is beyond the scope of mere words to learn that people within
the media are finally beginning to see what most Americans have known for
well over a decade.

We must stop punishing nonviolent, productive, harmless citizens.

Column's Argument Applauded

I appreciate Cynthia Tucker's recent column calling for an end to the War
on Drugs. It's time to end the terror by changing our intrusive, big-bully
policies, both foreign and domestic. The monetary costs are staggering and
the human suffering unconscionable.

Let's never say, "The vision of a free America might have been."
