MARIJUANA: U.S. WORSE THAN CHINA

Dear Editor,

Letter writer Larry Seguin wrote on June 18 that the United States' prison
population is second only to that of China [Marijuana: Regulate growth
industry away, June 18 Letters to the Editor, Langley Advance News]. In
fact, the US has the highest prison population in the world right now, and
the previous record holder was Nazi Germany.

The U.S. has 700 of every 100,000 citizens in prison, compared to 115 in
Canada and far less than that in Europe.

China, on the other hand imprisons only 40 citizens per 100,000.

There are now two million U.S. citizens in prison.

One can only hope the U.S. comes to its senses in regards to its war on
drugs, before the prison population reaches six milion.
