FACTS ON MARIJUANA AND CANCER

In a recent letter on the effect of marijuana on tumours you impugned the
validity of the writer's argument in the postscript. To set the record
straight (no pun intended ) the March 2000 issue of Nature Medicine
published a study where researchers announced they had destroyed incurable
brain tumours in rats by injecting them with THC, the active ingredient in
cannabis. Also, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of
Sciences are studies by the National Institutes of Health and National
Institute for the Chemistry of Biological Systems in Naples, Italy that
showed ingredients in marijuana act as an antioxidant and neuron protector
and can inhibit the growth of breast cancer.

(It's still a stretch to suggest marijuana cures cancer.)
