ANKORS LAUNCHES MAGAZINE

Right now there are 500 copies of Volume 1 Issue 1 of Name Me, the new free
ANKORS magazine, available on the streets of the West and East Kootenays and
Boundary Regions.  They can be found at the Kootenay Co-op, ANKORS, Alcohol
and Addiction Services, Copper Mountain Books, doctors' offices,
restaurants, coffee shops - anywhere people are likely to pass by.

There is a contest for the most popular name for the magazine, as well as a
$25 prize to the originator of the most popular name as selected by free
ballot of all who care to vote.

The magazine is mandated to look at hypes, psychoactive drugs, politics
concerning psycho-active drugs, personal experiences concerning, related
poetry and prose, AIDS, Hepatitis C, related STDs, recovery, harm reduction,
associated mental health issues, networking concerning drug use and any
"so-called" non-mainstream behaviour, sexuality - yours, mine, anyone's, and
freedom! The magazine has no bent, either for or against the use of illicit
drugs. It is meant to provide an accessible forum for people at any level of
society in our regions who have something to say concerning drug use or
related issues - any issue that cannot find a printed forum elsewhere. There
are no sanctions, no biased editing.

The editorial/layout staff consists of Steve, Bob and Megan.  They try to
publish "All the News that Fits!"

"We hope that this will humanize the street community and marginalized
people.  It's an opportunity for people to learn abut a world that they may
never have seen, educate themselves and maybe support people that they
wouldn't have supported otherwise," said Megan.

ANKORS is funded by the IHA and Federal Health Department, whose mandate
concerns information on prevention and networking, support for HIV+
individuals, and recently Hepatitis C, as well are printing the magazine.
