While the letter to the editor in which the writer downplays the dangers of raves seems innocuous, the sad fact is that club drug use relating to rave-type activity is on the rise in Rowan County. In addition, there is a large underground segment of our younger population that dismisses these dangers as power plays by paid government officials seeking to enhance their budgets. Unfortunately, they have a tendency to believe this sort of baloney and ignore the dangers. I hope our group (the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention, or ASAP) will be able to spend some time addressing this growing danger. In the interim, I hope the Post will be alert to crime news and other harmful activity that is ultimately difficult for the rave scene to ignore. I have information here (at www.tommyjones.org/drugviewpoint/overalloutline.htm) Kids Partying) on Charlotte's efforts to combat dance clubs. It could be of help.
