PARENTS NEED TO GET INVOLVED

Regarding your series on heroin is central Vermont, I thought it was
informative and well done.

I especially liked Thursday's editorial summarizing how much feelings of
"hopelessness" were an overall theme and showing the readers there are many
positive things we can do if we care and put the paper down and do
something to get involved.

Parental involvement is one of the key components, I believe. Our children
get to high school and we quit going to open house or dropping in to see
what's happening at a crucial time in their lives.

This is my sixth year of attending "back to school night" and I am always
disheartened at the very low attendance by parents every year.

The school staff's efforts are laudable as are our police departments'
perseverance in finally making a resource officer for the school a good
possibility.

Thanks to all reporters involved.
