WOMAN WHO WEED-WHACKED METS MAY FACE EXTORTION RAP

Investigators in the Queens District Attorney's Office are probing whether
a baseball groupie's threat to distribute a photo of a Met player smoking
pot is extortion.

"The matter is under investigation," said Patrick Clark, a spokesman for
Queens DA Richard Brown.

"No determination has been reached regarding possible criminal charges."

Pitcher Grant Roberts has accused a minor-league groupie of demanding money
to keep her from distributing a photo that shows him smoking pot.

The photo, which showed Roberts using a bong, appeared Friday in a local
newspaper. The accompanying story said at least seven Mets have used
marijuana this season, and alleged that pot use is widespread in the team's
organization.

Met officials have denied the allegations, and owner Fred Wilpon has been
quoted saying they are "a lot of garbage."
