PERKINS MAN FATALLY SHOT AFTER POLICE CHASE

PERKINS -- A reserve police officer fatally shot a man Saturday night
during an oil field stakeout. Kenneth W. Bailey, 22, of Perkins, was shot
during a police chase, said Kym Koch, Oklahoma State Bureau of
Investigation spokeswoman.

The chase started about 11 p.m. Saturday in Noble County, where authorities
had staked out an oil field where anhydrous ammonia had been reported
stolen from tanks. Officers suspected the thefts were being done to produce
methamphetamine at another location.

Law officers found four suspects and arrested three of them. Their names
were not available Sunday, Koch said.

The fourth suspect fled in a pickup. He was spotted in Payne County and a
roadblock was set up near 122 Street and Fairgrounds Road east of Perkins,
Koch said.

The driver of the pickup drove over stop sticks and continued driving. A
reserve Perkins police officer fired one shot and hit the driver.

Authorities took the man to Stillwater Medical Center, where he was
pronounced dead, Koch said.
