A BACKWARD APPROACH TO WAR ON DRUGS

Students, teachers and faculty at Horace Mann Elementary School decided to
tackle the war on drugs from a different direction this week. The school
completed its participation in Red Ribbon Week by wearing their clothes
backward for Turn Your Back on Drugs Day. Participants spent the entire day
walking the halls with their shirts, pants, ties and hats turned backward
to symbolize a promise to stay away from illegal drugs, tobacco and
alcohol, Horace Mann Principal Kim Bishop said. Students have been wearing
Red Ribbon Week bracelets all week, hanging posters and banners around the
school's campus and writing poems and essays, Bishop said. All schools in
the district have participated in activities and events this week to
celebrate Red Ribbon Week. The theme of the week was "Freedom is Drug Free:
Plant the Promise!"
