PROUD OF OUR POT

CONTRARY TO what Ontario Public Safety and Security Commissioner Bob 
Runciman said ("It's a pot of gold," Nov. 3), as a Canadian, I am 
enormously proud that our cannabis is so highly regarded around the world. 
Runciman's comments about "catch and release" justice simply reflects the 
common sense attitude Ontario judges and the community have about this 
herb, and how stupid it really is to send someone to jail for gardening. 
Our Senate has even recommended that we legalize cannabis and take 
organized crime out of the equation entirely. Runciman should concentrate 
on solving real, pressing problems in our communities, like getting 
pedophiles off Ontario streets, instead of going after a relatively 
harmless plant that is only valuable because of its illegality.
