GOOD RIDDANCE

Adios Wayne! I won't miss you but I do wish you the best of luck in Wyoming
(re: "Turn me loose, set me free," Wayne's Word, Nov. 14). I sure hope you
and your Libertarian cohorts will do better at taking over Wyoming than the
Rajneeshee's did in eastern Oregon. When I look at a typical Libertarian, I
see a Republican who smokes dope. But for that difference alone I would
much rather be governed by a Libertarian than a Republican. But before you
go, I have to mention that your disdain for the majority (those dullards
who would take your First and Second Amendment rights away if they could)
may be a bit misplaced.

You'll recall that it was the majority who demanded the Bill of Rights-not
the elite minority who wrote the U.S. Constitution. That so called "tyranny
of the majority" was a concern only to those privileged few who didn't
happen to be female, poor, slaves or Indians and they made sure they
devised a political system that did indeed protect their "liberty" (wealth)
from the liberty of their fellow Americans. Fortunately, today every
American over 18 (felons and lunatics excepted) may vote. But not to worry
Wayne, the majority of them don't. So it's still the organized minorities
that have the power. Who knows, maybe in our lifetimes a Libertarian utopia
will emerge in Wyoming, and Cheyenne will become the new Amsterdam with
cannabis shops and hookers displaying their wares behind shop windows and
free-spirited folk eagerly chasing the almighty dollar, all packin' heat.

Editorial note: Wayne Laugesen hasn't signed up to invade Wyoming yet, so
it may be premature for "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead."
