First, let me go to the last paragraph of the letter in which Mr. Griffie states, "Remember whiners are just bored people with a lot of time on their hands." Well, Mr. Griffie, just what do you think you are doing with your letter? That's what I thought whining about whiners. Give the man a break indeed. May I remind you, sir, that it is the sheriff's own policy of NO DEALS that prohibits any of us from giving the man a break. He had his chance but it appears that extracurricular activities caused him to be blindsided and the position cannot allow that to happen. In the second paragraph you refer to the sheriff as a "good runner-up" to God. Boy, I bet you get some good comments about that one especially from the Muslim community. Remember the picture of the sheriff holding the severed head of Osama bin Laden and the words "Happy Ramadan"? I kind of wish the county government would let the federal government know that he has taken bin Laden so they can quit looking for him. Send Mr. Bush the picture for it is said that a picture is worth a thousand words or in this case a few choice ones. Still in the second paragraph we seem to have a kind of Orwellistic approach going on here, a kind of newspeak, if you will. Mr. Griffie seems to believe and wants us to believe that the sheriff has rid the county of drugs and the dealers, when at the present time some now ex-Davidson County Sheriff's Office deputies are in jail accused of doing the very thing that Mr. Griffie says the sheriff has done away with. Mr. Griffie, it is obvious to me that it is the FBI that has come in and swept the sheriff''s office somewhat clean. We don't know the whole story yet, but we will. You go on to write and I will add my comment in parenthesis, "the criminals grinned and smiled as they worked (for) the county over real good not even pausing to think about getting caught." Mr. Griffie, when they represent the law, when they are the law and do the things these people are accused of then they are far worse then any street dealer that I have known and or heard of. No, Mr. Griffie, drugs are not gone from the area; they are here in the hands of the dealers. The dealers along with thieves, murderers and just plain bad boys and girls are not afraid of Sheriff Hege and his intimidators because the power trip they are on will not let them focus on that aspect. That is the reason a new and much larger detention center (jail) was built. An observation of mine is perhaps we should entertain the thought of a county police department. Crime fighters should be hired, not elected, because even though we may vote one out we may still vote another one in. Then the jail may be painted purple with yellow daisies. Not that I care, but some people seem to have a problem with color. A play off of an old phrase we all know well sums up this situation: Voting is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. Remember, people, the next time you feel bored, put the time to use and write a letter to the editor. Who knows, your whining just might be the words everyone is looking for.
