VIGIL FOR DEAD DOG 'APPALLING' ACTION

Regarding the article, 20 attend vigil for dog shot by police (Nov. 23). It
is clear, in a city as large as London, a group can be found to protest and
proselytize for any cause.

The story a group had formed in front of the police station for a
candlelight vigil in memory of a dead dog is a story of bizarre, misplaced
public interest. No doubt the story that unfolded and resulted in the death
of the dog is disturbing, but to carry on in this fashion is appalling.

What next? A memorial in Victoria Park, to mark this dark event in policing
in London, or to remember all animals killed inside our city by tragic events?

What would have been more newsworthy is if Marcie Carroll had said, "Enough
is enough; let's let the police investigation conclude and the report be
presented, and let's move forward all knowing the event was tragic but did
involve, thankfully, only the death of a dog."
