PROPOSED CANNABIS LAW IS UNREALISTIC

Re: MPs push for looser laws for pot possession, Dec. 13.

At least the Commons committee got something right when it said that
enforcement of current cannabis laws is expensive, uneven, unfair, wasteful
and stigmatizing. Of course, ticketing people for possession of more than
30 grams does nothing to change all that.

Can we now expect the police to carry scales with them wherever they go?
And are we now to be permitted to grow up to 30 grams for personal use?
That would be quite the feat of creative horticulture. A single mature
cannabis plant weighs, at the very least, one kilogram.

As usual, the proposed cannabis law bears very little relationship to
reality. What are the Liberals trying to achieve with this legislation? Is
this supposed to increase respect for stupid, prohibitionist laws?
