TOKING AND DRIVING?

Editor, The News:

Those of us with more concern for the safety of society than the ability of
individuals to satisfy their wants have two questions which must be
definitely answered: Can the ability of those driving vehicles be impaired
by the use of marijuana?

If so, is there a roadside administrable test courts will accept as
evidence of impairment?

The answer to the first question would seem to be "yes" in that "the
federal government has submitted documents claiming that marijuana use is
connected to increased likelihood of cancer, automobile accidents,
psychiatric problems and drug addiction" to the Supreme Court. (St. John's
Evening Telegraph, Dec. 14).

This being so, the answer to the second must be affirmative as well if
society is to be protected.
