ANTI-POT CRUSADE RAISES QUESTIONS

Dear Editor - The crusade by Waterloo regional council urging judges to
impose stiffer sentences on "pot growers" (marijuana growing operations)
seems to be a totally unreasonable attack on the courts and the legal system.

I may have missed earlier stories, but I wonder, if the so-called court
legal experts, the council, have researched the law and legal precedent
surrounding the issue, do the councillors know the defendants' antecedents,
whether the sentence must be custodial or a non-custodial fine?

Does that also mean any defense council must take into consideration the
Waterloo regional views? It is a feeble way for the organizers of the
letters to get notoriety.
