TRY MODERATION

To The Editor:

I understand the smoking in public places policies but using Leis Urban's
logic ("Your Views," Feb. 11), we should also ban french fries, chocolate,
coffee, automobiles, aspirin and innumerable other abusable items and
substances. Ask Russia about the black market cigarette business -- and
tobacco isn't banned there; it's just very expensive.

The "nicotine mob" in Russia fears the same thing that drug dealers around
the world fear: legalization, fair pricing and regulation. Just like food
and alcohol and everything else in life, moderation is the key; defining
moderation through prohibition is rarely the answer.
