MONEYMAKING VENTURES NOT ALWAYS PRINCIPLED

To the Editor:

In response to Jim Millard's letter Feb. 15, "A Tyson fight brings in
millions in revenue." Mr. Millard says the Tyson/Lewis fight will bring in
an estimated $180 million into a struggling economy. He acknowledges that
Tyson has problems, but the fight will take place somewhere and why not
take advantage of it to bring money into our area.

I have to tell Mr. Millard that our area could increase its financial
income by legalizing hard drugs, prostitution, gambling, opium dens and a
myriad of other illegal "money-making" activities that are repugnant to our
Judeo-Christian ethics and moralities. I wonder where he would draw the
line in money-making schemes.

To give a rapist and crude animal who would bite off his opponent's ear the
credibility of recognizing him in a boxing match in our state goes against
many of our principles.

Do we live by time honored principles or open our door to every activity
that makes money?
