CHANGE IN COURSE

Reference your editorial, "Bush changes course in drug war."

I wish that it were true, but coordinated with the Bush announcement this
week were a series of pre-dawn raids in which dynamite was used to blow the
doors off of medical cannabis suppliers in San Francisco and Oakland.

The district attorney and county sheriff in San Francisco rightfully
denounced the federal action as an affront to the will of the people of
their state who have overwhelmingly voted to allow such use of the drug.

I have a hard time believing the rhetoric of the current administration
when they try (with millions of our tax dollars) to persuade us that drug
users fund terrorists and then bust local marijuana distributors who are
empowered by the will of the voters in their state. Perhaps the next move
of our "compassionately conservative" administration will be to make the
obvious connection between weapon possession and terrorists (most
terrorists possess a weapon) and move to eliminate domestic possession of
weapons because of the security hazard.
