HIGH SCHOOL DRUG BUST NOT POSITIVE SOLUTION

You recently published an article about the police busting kids at school
("School drug scan by K-9 yields 2 arrests," Feb. 15). I know as a student
in the Frederick County school system I am disgraced at not only the
thought of bringing illegal substances to school, but also at the thought
that we pay the salaries of those people who disrupted our educational area.

I believe we should control the drug problem in our area, but I also
believe we should do it in a positive manner. I am talking about drug
courses teaching high school students about the law and illegal activities.

We should be paying their salaries for that, not a two-person drug bust. If
these kids make the effort to go to school and learn, why would anyone in
their right mind want to disrupt that process, considering the high school
drop-out rate these days.

I am simply stating that if drug users are that big of a problem in our
school system, we need to do something positive about it, not just bust the
users.
