CASCADE LOCKS WILL CELEBRATE GRANT MARCH 8

CASCADE LOCKS - Officials have asked state and federal legislators to walk
the gang-plank -- and join a Drug Free Communities Grant Celebration.
Special invitations for the festivities from 3 to 5 p.m. on March 8 were
issued last week to Gov. John Kitzhaber, Attorney General Hardy Meyers,
Diane Peterson from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Oregon Rep. Patti Smith,
U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, Oregon Sen. Rick Metsger and U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden.
Heather Laurance, grant coordinator for Cascade Locks Interested in Kids
(CLIK), said these individuals were asked to attend because of their strong
support for the rural communities' battle against an escalating drug and
alcohol use.

Cascade Locks recently received a $400,000 federal grant that will be
disbursed over a four-year period through CLIK.

The funding will be used for education and enforcement to combat the high
rate [of] substance abuse by both youth and adults.
